A tumor marker tests use a sample of blood to look for chemicals made by cancer cells. High tumor marker levels can be a sign of cancer. The tests can help to diagnose specific types of cancer and plan treatment. It aims to detect cancer before symptoms appear, to find cancer at the very early stages, when it may be easier to treat and help to reduce risk of developing disseminated cancer.
